Announcing the first ever Frog Hollow outdoor summer camp programs! Building on the enthusiasm and expertise of our 2020-21 Outdoor Class staff and a decade of quality children’s educational programing, Frog Hollow is offering a summer of outdoor creative exploration. Join us for a fun-filled season of nature exploration, immersive creative experiences, and the opportunity to use writing as an outlet while in the great outdoors.
Small-group, all-outdoor, pandemic-conscious camps.
Seattle and Carnation
At Frog Hollow, outdoor adventures, imaginative free-play, and the expression of creativity are vital elements of an enlivened (and enlivening) education.
Campers will spend their days running wild, and also slowing down, exploring the forests of the lush Pacific Northwest and awakening their creativity.
Sections of every day will be consciously devoted to writing as well as the wide field of creative arts. Children will connect with their creative voices, facilitated by instructors with a passion for creative expression.
In these strange and unpredictable days, the timeless joy of face-to-face connection can be hard to find. Campers will have the opportunity to meet and run around with new friends, through a wide array of games intentionally created and revised to be both Covid-mindful and physically engaging.
Each week will offer:
~ active games ~
~ nature exploration ~
~ storytelling ~
~ creative writing and writing games ~
~ music-making ~
~ game invention and testing ~
~ painting, drawing, and/or comic-book making ~
Perhaps one day your child will be interested in exploring why music sounds the way it does and how different elements of songs work together to create grand effects. Or maybe they’ll be drawn to map-making and treasure hunts. Perhaps some time to sit somewhere quiet and write about the world around them will call to them. Maybe there is a song or comic-book or story they want to create under the guidance of dedicated mentors. And, of course, there may very well be days where your child just needs a place to run around and dodge flying pool noodles!
Our hope is that kids can come to us to be themselves: to play and be curious, to learn and express, both as children and as artists. We seek to enliven and respect the voices of the next generation — and to get them muddy! — all in a safe and intentional container.
Our instructors are passionate and knowledgeable, bringing years of experience with education and mentoring, wilderness skills, music and writing, and running around in the woods with kids. Staff at all sessions hold current certifications in Wilderness First Aid
Camps run from 9:00 to 3:00, Monday through Friday. We are currently offering camps at two locations: Seward Park in Seattle, and Carnation Tree Farm (adjacent to Tolt MacDonald Park) in Carnation.
All sessions $375
